Structured Literacy Intervention in Montreal Ouest Orton Gillingham Associate Interim Practitioner, OG Canada

My Approach & Qualifications

My literacy foundation is in Orton-Gillingham, a powerful and evidence based approach which provides a solid framework. OG is not a programme and as such allows for an individualised, structured, cumulative and prescriptive approach that is structured and sequential . Concurrently I stay up to date with evidence based developments in the Science of Reading field and tweak my instruction as needed. I am passionate about creating a teaching environment that is accessible and encourages student independence and development. My students exhibit gains not only in reading but also in the spelling and morphological domains thereby equipping them to transfer their skills to new environments. I am open to working with people of any age though frequently my practice is later diagnosed students in grades 3-5.

I am currently qualified at the Associate Interim level with OG Canada, practitioner #893. Choosing to credential with OG Canada ensures families that my training is current and relevant and my practice is accountable to OG Canada and as such is governed by a strict code of ethics.

Individual Intervention

One to one remedial intervention for reading and writing for students with dyslexia (a specific learning disorder with impairment in ready) and co-diagnoses; DLD (developmental language disorder), dysgraphia (a specific learning disorder with impairment in written expression) or other reading delays. Each student is evaluated during the first, Diagnostic, lesson using various measures to obtain a baseline of the student's literacy skills. From there lessons are designed to remediate gaps in sounds, letters, spelling conventions, syllable types, non-phonetic words, morphology and more. Also known as Tier 3 intervention.

School Support

All students benefit from evidence-based classroom literacy instruction (tier 1) but a percentage of students will require intervention. Working within the school context I am able to provide intervention as both the small group (tier 2) level or in 1 to 1 sessions (tier 3).
